How many diets have you tried in the past? Let’s face it we’ve all tried them and that’s not to say they don’t work. The pounds may shift quickly the trousers get looser and you feel fabulous! That’s the easy part, the hard part is maintaining and following a programme that’s sustainable and enjoyable. The more we think about what we shouldn’t be eating the more we want to eat it. Not to mention as we get older, the task becomes harder and what worked 10 years ago just ain’t cutting it. The mid section is creeping in, the trousers getting tighter and metabolism slower.
I hate the word diet. We need to look at the bigger picture and finding a healthy balance with your nutrition doesn’t just involve what you eat but also how and when you eat and your relationship with food. My new MENOFIT programme starting in January will help you find a clearer path to healthy eating and understand which foods we should be including in our diets that will not only help us reduce the waistband but more importantly help us reduce menopausal symptoms. No good food/bad food scenario, but how we can implement changes to how we eat, that over time will make a big difference to our overall health & wellness.
Here are 5 of my Top tips to get your juices flowing:
- Start your day with a glass of water and a protein based breakfast / or brunch
- Try to cook your food from scratch where possible using plenty of herbs, spices for flavour
- Ditch the low fat / lighter products and go for the full fat unprocessed version i.e yogurts – go for full fat Greek Yogurt or Keffer (great for your gut health),
- Include some good fats into your day – avocados, nuts, oily fish, Greek yogurt and cook with extra virgin olive oil
- Eat plenty of plant based foods – Work on the colour of the rainbow plate and make sure your meals include a variety of colours
- Reduce the amount of starchy white carbohydrates like white rice, bread, pasta and replace with wholegrain varieties where you can
Want to know why and most importantly how we can create a healthy balanced eating pattern that will help us on our menopause journey & shift unwanted pounds?
