Eating the same foods day in day out can cause food fatigue which quite often results in us reaching for the quick fixes (i.e proessed sugary foods) . Not only that but a poor diet lacking in nutrients can create gut health & mental cognition problems.  This week in my online Elevate group we’ve set ourselves the challenge of a meat free week and have been cooking plant based meals with plenty of macro and micro nutrients.  Next week we are moving on to a slow cooker & soups week, meat back into the equation.  We put a huge emphasis on flavour in our kick start recipes so ensuring we have a well stocked cupboard with amazing spices is essential. Foods full of amazing natural flavours and aromas surely out way the smell of greasy processed take outs….. Eating well & keeping your food interesting will fuel your body and mind with the very best, which in turn keeps us functioning with a clearer mind and hopefully more energy.

So we decided to take a peek in our spice cupboard and see what was lurking in the back……. And so the fun began.

Spices popping up from as far back as 2006 !!!  It became our challenge for the rest of this week to clear the cupboard and pull our all our ‘out of date’ spices & re-stock re-stock with a batch of ‘GO TO’ spices for the remaining 5 weeks ahead.

Here are some of the most frequently used spices …..

  • Black Peppercorns
  •  Cayenne Pepper
  •  Chlli Powder
  •  Tumeric
  •  Cinnamon
  •  Cloves
  •  Cumin
  •  Curry Powder
  •  Paprika
  •  Ground Ginger
  •  Garlic
  •  Corriander
  •  Dried Oregano
  •  Dried Rosemary
  •  Dried Thyme
  •  Himalayan Salt

The question is…… How’s your spice cupboard looking? Can you beat 2006 & what are your fav spices? I’d love to hear from you x
